Welcome to Portugal
Since the inauguration of Atlantic Holidays in June 1991 our aim has been to offer discerning holidaymakers the opportunity to travel to resorts whose mild year-round climate nurtures exotic vegetation and outstanding natural beauty, and where fascinating historical and cultural discoveries are waiting to be made.
We are passionate about travel and having spent almost 20 years organising package holidays to the Portuguese islands of Madeira, Porto Santo and the Azores our knowledge is extensive and customer service first class. Complemented by our association with the Pestana Group, owner of Pestana Hotels & Resorts and the Pousadas de Portugal, Atlantic Holidays is privileged to be able to offer you a holiday programme to mainland Portugal that is selectively comprehensive.
Whether you long for a city break in Oporto or Lisbon, romantic river cruise on the Douro, escorted or independent tour taking in the beautiful Pousadas or even a golfing break in the Algarve, we are confident that you will find your ideal holiday in our brochure.
For a relatively small country Portugal offers the seasoned traveller a diverse range of things to do and see. From the verdant national parks in the north to the magnificent beaches of the Algarve, Portugal quite simply has something for everyone.
Local traditions feature highly on the Portuguese agenda and as you travel across the country you will often come across a village or a city celebrating an event. Tourists are warmly welcomed at such festivities so don't be afraid to get involved.
A country rich in culture and architecture, Portugal not surprisingly boasts exceptional accommodation opportunities in the form of Pousadas, magnificent palaces and manor houses, as well as traditional city and beach hotels.
With some natural spas used in Portugal since roman times, the Portuguese are well acquainted with the finer things in life and a growing spa culture in the country means that most five-star and some four-star hotels benefit from excellent spa facilities. If you want a work out first to fully appreciate the wind down, Portugal's temperate climate and golf courses, many of them world class, are a tempting if challenging proposition for golfers.
The official language is Portuguese, although English is widely spoken in the major cities and tourist areas. The local currency is the Euro.
Driving in Portugal is on the right side of the road. Seat belts are compulsory for both front and back seats.
